CIVIL society organisation Fiji Media Watch organised an orientation session with board members yesterday on its new strategic program 2010-2013.

This follows the official launch of a new project titled "A Free and Responsible Fiji Media Environment" on July 19.

In a statement, FWM executive director Agatha Ferei-Furivai said the immediate purpose of the project is to build the capacity of Fiji citizens to be critical consumers of mass media information.

She said the project consists of five thematic areas, three of which are program-related.

Ms Ferei-Furivai said the thematic areas cover good governance, human rights in media education, media monitoring, media partnership and networking.

The strategic program is co-funded by the EED (Evangelischer Entwicklungsdienst) Germany, Caritas Australia and the Delegation of the European Commission for the Pacific.
